Tips and resources to support children birth to age five

Mother's Day is coming up this Sunday. This special day was created by Anna Jarvis in 1912 as a way to celebrate the contribution mothers make to the world.

I am curious to know what you are doing to make your mother feel appreciated. I love and cherish my mother, but I never know what to get her on Mother's Day because she's really hard to shop for. Every year, I just assemble a few things together and cross fingers that she'll like them.

Here are this year's chosen items so far (shhh):
  • Yellow (her favorite color) roses in a vase
  • A Mother's Day card (always necessary)
  • Sonicare Toothbrush
  • A Vietnamese book titled Remembering Saigon from Amazon.com

Please share your plans to honor and celebrate Mother's Day by adding a comment below.

Cheers to all mothers on Earth!

I'm sending my Mom in Oklahoma flowers, then I'll spend some time with her on the phone on Sunday. Time is my favorite thing to share with my Mother.
This is my first Mother's Day as both a daughter and a mom. I think that means I'll be both giving and receiving a gift!

I will be with my mother on Mother's Day, and since we live 3,000 + miles from each other, I'm feeling pretty lucky about that. I do want to make sure I get her something fabulous. Getting my mother a present is such a challenge. How can you repay someone for giving you life? I'm not sure there is a gift that exists that means that much (diamonds do seem to work but aren't easy on the pocketbook...).

My son is the best gift I could ever receive, so I don't care if I get anything at all - and while those who know me won't believe it, it's true!

I think I might take a photo of my mom with my son and have it framed for her. That's all I have for now. I'd better figure it out. And SOON!

I'd love to hear ideas from others. I'm running out of time! Yikes.
I will be sending flowers to my daughter who is the best mother my grandson could ever have.
My mother lives in New York State so I won't be able to be there in person, however I will be sending a card and a present (shhhh... I'm getting her a pin made by a local artist). She loves gifts from Seattle so I think everything will work out.
Every year on Mother's Day I give my mother a certificate for "A Day with your Daughter." We schedule a day together, and I pay for everything! We've done pedicures, movies, and one year, gardening - I'm looking forward to this year.
Ever since our son was disagnosed with Type 1 diabetes 12 years ago we have gone to Family Retreat over Mother's Day weekend. It is sponsored by the American Diabetes Association and is an incredible opportunity for families with children 12 and under with diabetes to get together to share and learn together.

Our kids are too old to be campers now and so for the past 7 years we have all volunteered at the retreat - the kids are counselors and my husband and I are in charge of helping the campers make presents/crafts for their moms.

I can't imagine Mother's Day spent any other way.
I'm going to cook dinner for my mom.
She lives out of state, so I am sending her flowers at work. I am also going to send her a small gift through the mail. Maybe some scented soaps and a scarf. Even though I know she'll love the flowers, I want her to have something to open on Mother's day since my brother & I are out of state.
