So, what is everyone doing to welcome Spring to their Homes/Centers?
Chris DeVoney from our Port Angels office put together planting kits for providers...unfortunately, we only had enough for 10 folks but it was very successful. We planted seeds with the kids and then they can watch them grow. We suggested taking pictures of the pots and they sprout and talk about what will happen as they get bigger. We also had a book titled: "Roots, Shoots, Buckets and Boots-Gardening together". Share your ideas~
One activity I do every year with the kids is to grow "Hairy Harrys" Have the kids decorate a small pot with a face. I usually use plastic white pots and perm. markers but you can use stryofoam cups as well. Add soil and wheat grass or reg. grass seed. As the grass grows tall, the kids can use scissors to give Harry a haircut. Let it grow again, and it's time for another haircut. The kids love this fun and inexpensive activity.
That's great Nancy...the teachers I worked with at Head Start in Oak Harbor would do that every year! The kids really got a kick out of it. I loved some of the faces they would put on the pots.
